Business is booming in my hometown of Vancouver, Washington!
Having been in business in Clark County, Washington, for 21 years, I have always known that we have something special here. Then I read an article in Inc. Magazine about how the business climate in SW Washington is changing and thriving.
I remember probably 15 years ago hearing a presentation at the Rotary Club of Vancouver about a vision for the “old paper mill site” on the Vancouver waterfront. Seemed so far-fetched at the time. Fast forward to now, and take a walk along the Vancouver waterfront. It is incredible to see just what has transpired and the future of Terminal 1. It is thriving, beautiful, fun, and exciting. My wife and I regularly take date nights and stay at one of the new hotels, where we enjoy a great dinner and take in the whole waterfront experience. We love it.
The waterfront experience is just one of the many reasons businesses are thriving in this area. The people, business climate, taxation, and the laid-back style are just a few. Then there is safety, the schools, the lovely neighborhoods, parks, and trails. People want to live here, which makes it ideal for businesses that rely on a skilled workforce.
A few years ago, I saw an advertisement that claimed the hottest new neighborhood in Portland is “The Couve,” referring to Vancouver. As President of the Greater Vancouver Chamber, John McDonagh, says in the article… “In time, the area will rival Portland, which is just across the Columbia River in Oregon. I think we already do, John… we do.
