Oldie, but a goodie.
Last week in Dallas, I was working with two new leadership teams, laying the groundwork for their strategic growth journey.
As I was deciding which tools to pull from the toolbox, I kept coming back to one that has delivered some of the most consistent impact throughout my 20+ years of coaching…
The classic SWOT exercise.
It’s like that shirt in your closet you never quite get rid of. Years later, you pull it out, put it on, and it still fits perfectly.
Or that random piece of scrap wood in the garage you hang onto… and eventually it becomes exactly what you needed.
Simple. Familiar. Reliable.
And just like those things, the SWOT continues to deliver.
When you’re laying the foundation for a strategic growth plan, you first need clarity:
• Who are we really?
• What do we do exceptionally well?
• Where are we weak?
• Where are the opportunities?
• What threats do we need to be aware of?
A well-done SWOT creates that clarity.
And clarity is where strategic growth begins.
If you’re looking for a place to start building your growth plan, don’t overlook the classics.
Sometimes the tools that have been around the longest still work the best.
